Grant funding to support entrepreneurship and nutrition at Rebel Ventures

Rebel Ventures received a $15,000 grant to support hunger relief efforts, courtesy of ACME Markets’ Nourishing Neighbors Community Relief Initiative, and an $18,000 Youth Entrepreneurship Grant from the Whole Kids Foundation.

The funding from ACME Markets will pay for staffing, supplies and production costs of healthy-food related media activities and resources. Additionally, it will help Rebel share resources directly with families to support healthy cooking, like the Healthy Deliciousness at Home Fund, which grants cooking supplies and equipment to families in need.

Other programs like Rebel Chefs Live, a live interactive cooking show, and the Rebel Chefs Community Cookbook, a book of recipe ideas from youth across Philadelphia, will also be supported by this funding.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Grant from the Whole Kids Foundation will fund the creation of three high school student positions at Rebel Ventures. We’re now hiring a graphic designer, a cooking show chef and a grant writer. The funding will help us fulfill our mission of engaging high school students in meaningful work experience through entrepreneurship and promoting access to healthy and delicious food.

ACME’s Nourishing Neighbors Community Relief Initiative was established to help families impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and beyond. More than $77 million has been donated this year alone to help food banks, schools and senior centers launch or maintain their meal programs. This round of Nourishing Neighbors grants focuses on the needs of marginalized communities, which have been particularly hard hit . Roughly 86% of Latino households with children and 66% of Black households with children reported serious financial problems during the pandemic. The numbers are staggering across the board.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Grant from the Whole Kids Foundation supports youth-led business programs. Rebel Ventures was one of two organizations selected to receive a grant from the initiative in 2020.

This has been a challenging year and these grants will help us finish 2020 on a positive note. The Rebel Crew is thrilled to receive this funding and we look forward to putting it to good use.
