03 Jun Seeds and Hummus
Last week, I started working with ReBel Ventures and I could not be happier with the experience so far. My first task was to make the seeds. I had no idea what that meant, but within a few minutes, I had my hairnet, gloves, and red apron on and I was ready to go. We measured the seeds and put different spices on them. After we baked them, we put them in bags. In my culture, I am very accustomed to spicy food, so the seeds are no doubt my favorite product.
The crew is divided into different teams: research and development, operations, marketing, and more. I head two teams, but what is really nice that the high school students rotate groups giving me a chance to work with each of them. I like how this brings well-roundedness to each individual, while still allowing for specialization in certain fields. I enjoy how despite the separation of tasks, we are all a team here for the same mission: promote healthy deliciousness.
The kitchen dynamic was amazing as everyone was participating in different tasks. I think it is great how so many tasks are being accomplished every second. Mixing ingredient, production, packaging, labeling, etc. ReBel Bars, ReBel cakes, and seeds are just a few of the well-known products. The work environment is friendly and in just two weeks, I have learned so many new skills from my colleagues. Sometimes, just observing has been so helpful in allowing me to see and ask questions about what I am seeing. Everyone is motivated and wanting to help out.Within the first week itself, I have been able to form a bond with each of the other member of the ReBel crew. We sing, ask each other questions, work, and most importantly, have fun!

White, orange, and purple carrots next to hummus we created in the kitchen, all on top of a beautiful snack garden.
Every Thursday, our team gets together on Penn’s campus to track the progress for the week and discuss the positive things we observed in the kitchen and what we can improve on to ensure better productivity and efficiency for the business. This past Thursday, we successfully reached our goals and developed more collaborative efforts. My favorite part was seeing how everyone enjoyed the hummus that myself and a few others created in the kitchen the day before. I didn’t know purple carrots even existed, but now they are officially my favorite! In fact, everyone loved the carrots and spinach with our hummus rather than the store bought, which made me really happy. Not only because I had a chance to work on it, but because ReBel might have a new product coming soon!
I am excited to work with ReBel Ventures and cannot wait to see what this summer has in store for us!
