Last week, we gave tons of children carrots and hummus to try. They learned a lot about carrots. We got around forty taste test cards. Today, we did the taste-testing again and many of the children were excited and familiar with what we were...

Tucked away in the backyard of Comegys Elementary School is a budding urban garden full of ripe fruits and vegetables. Walking past the entrance of the school, you would have never guessed that a variety of healthy deliciousness is growing in their own playground! Here, the kids have the unmatched opportunity to grow their own food that is used by Comegys for the Cooking Crew and Fruit Stand afterschool programs. Both programs are food education activities...

Coming back had made me realize how much I miss Rebel Ventures. A lot changed and I'm still adapting  to it. I met the new rebel crew and all I can see is potential and inspiration. It makes me happy when I see youth trying to make a difference in the community and seeing the company continue to do great and better things! Everyday, there's always something new to learn and things to experience. For...

Last Friday, I attended Cooking Crew Academy for the second time. Cooking Crew Academy, held at Comegys Elementary School in West Philadelphia, is an after school activity that empowers kids to become young chefs by cooking healthy dishes for themselves and their peers. The kids are given a great amount of autonomy and jump right in. They get to choose what dish they want to cook from an array of ingredients with an emphasis on...

Our mission is to create healthy deliciousness with kids in schools and in our community. In order to know if we're doing a good job accomplishing this mission, we need to figure out how to measure healthy deliciousness. Capturing data on healthy deliciousness helps us learn, grow, and improve. All Rebel crewmembers are responsible for collecting information about the healthy deliciousness created in their department each week. During our weekly staff meeting, we each report out...

Rebel Ventures has been developing a few new products over the last few months. One such product is the Rebel Cake, what I feel to be our tastiest product yet. Our crew loves the cake and are always excited to make it. Soon, we plan on having these cakes as a healthy and delicious alternative to the current breakfast offered at elementary schools in Philadelphia. On Thursday, we took these cakes to Huey to see how...

Last week, I started working with ReBel Ventures and I could not be happier with the experience so far. My first task was to make the seeds. I had no idea what that meant, but within a few minutes, I had my hairnet, gloves, and red apron on and I was ready to go. We measured the seeds and put different spices on them. After we baked them, we put them in bags. In my...

One of my favorite things about last week was the ReBel Ventures full crew meeting. We have one every Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30PM. This is where the entire crew, including mentors, gets together to discuss and work on things like future goals, pros and grows (things that are/were good and things that could use improvement), and any new ideas that we might have. We also break off into our departments (accounting, design, marketing, operations,...

Almost every week in the Rebel kitchen we get cases of ripe fruit delivered from the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market in Southwest Philly (it turns out that just a few miles from us is the biggest cold storage refrigerator in the country). Our job is to process the fruit (peel, wash, chop), put it in ziplock bags, and store it in our walk-in freezer. We call the fruit Rebel Icy Colors. We then deliver the fruit to 3...

Hi, my name is Nicolas Palmer. I will be telling  you about Rebel's R&D (Research & Development) process. Steps step 1.) We broke up into groups. step 2.) We talked about what we would want as our new product. step 3.) We talked about who our target audience is. step 4.) We talked about where it could be sold. step 5.) What ingredients would be used? step 6.) How fast could it be produced and how many could be produced at a time? Zaire and...
