30 Dec Kadidra's First Post
Hey! My name is Kadidra and I am 22 years old. I have three older brothers and one younger sister. I graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 2010. During my high school years I was on the basketball team, track team and softball team. As you can see I am very athletic. Being healthy is a big part of my life. Not only exercising but also eating healthy prevents heart attacks and clogged arteries. This is why I chose to be a part of Rebel Ventures. In my community, I see in poor neighborhoods unhealthy food options are cheap and readily available. I would like to see, one day that these unhealthy options are no longer available. I wonder why healthy foods are not cheap and available in the same way unhealthy foods are.
In my community I see people walking by, some look hungry for Rebel Bars – healthy food – and some just walk on by. There was this one guy I saw walking down the street with a bag that said ‘Whole Foods’. I began to think about our food system and began to wonder why all of our foods can’t be whole. Being a part of Rebel Ventures gives me the opportunity to spread knowledge about healthy food. I want to see people stay fit and healthy because of what they choose to eat instead of depending just on exercise. It is important for people in a community to let their food be their medicine. We want to live long healthy lives for our future and our children. That’s why we want to rebel against the norm. We, as the youth want to create a just and sustainable place to live in for our future generations. We need to demand the right to equal chances for healthy food options in low-income neighborhoods just as in high luxury places where the food is so much better. I think we need to be aware of where our food comes from and what’s in it.

Posted at 23:59h, 23 AprilObviously there’s nothing wrong with healthy eating, but there is a problem when it gets fanatical, you restrict too much, or you feel like you are better than others due to your food choices. Essentially you do it to feel in control, but you end up being controlled instead.

Posted at 14:27h, 06 MayMaybe the obesity epidemic is a result of poor food education, and not simply because it’s more expensive to eat healthy foods. Some food for thought.

Posted at 10:29h, 16 MayAmericans should have have meaningful access to nutritious and healthy food (and “fast” or “convenience” food) at reasonable cost. There’s no discrimination if products with unhealthy ingredients or preparation methods (fried turkey or fried ice cream anyone?) are limited in portion size and taxed highly.
