02 Apr Crumbles in Philadelphia E&T
Expanding our reach of Rebels Crumble’s distribution is always exciting for everyone at Rebel, but for one of our high school crew members to do so on his own is even more exciting for us. We would like to congratulate our team member, Zykir Taylor, for successfully getting Rebel Crumbles onto his school’s breakfast menu!
Zykir is a sophomore at Philadelphia Electrical and Technical Charter School. As a charter school it falls outside of the School District of Philadelphia meal program so Crumbles were not served there. To change this, he set up a meeting in January with his principal to sit down and talk about having Crumbles served for breakfast. Through his hard work, Rebel Crumbles were served in his school on February 20th and 21st for the first time. I sat down with him and asked him a few questions about how he made this happen.
When did the process of getting the Crumbles into your school begin?
Zykir: “Well I sent an email out around January 13th to my principal to sit down and talk about the Rebel Crumbles being served.”
What did the process look like?
Zykir:“ It was a series of meetings. Meeting with the Chief of Operations, and the final meeting was to discuss and plan how to serve the Crumbles. There was also a meeting with the Cafeteria Manager. I was also asked to promote the Crumbles so that the kids would take and eat them. There were a series of questions where I asked students things like: ‘did they like them?’ We also questioned a few teachers too!”
How long did it take?
Zykir: “It didn’t take long. The Crumbles were served February 20th and 21st.”
Why weren’t they served before?
Zykir: “I have no clue as to why and never did figure that out.”
What does this mean for youth who want to make changes in their school or communities?
Zykir: “This means it is simple to make a change and to take the initiative by making things happen!”
